"I wouldn't expect any major moves between now and Sunday," Cherington said. "We're still working on some stuff. Certainly the spring training roster is mostly what it's going to be."

Wednesday if Carl Crawford might miss the first few weeks of the regular season, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said the scenario was a distinct possibility. Crawford underwent surgery on his left wrist in January, with the organization suggesting at the time the outfielder might miss Opening Day.

"I wouldn't be surprised if Carl's a few weeks into the season before he's really ready to go,'' Valentine said. "I wouldn't be surprised, nor disappointed if that's what nature dictates as the healing process."

The Red Sox DH admitted that there was a time during the offseason -- prior to agreeing to his one-year, $14.575 million deal with the Sox --  that he thought his time with Boston might be done.
